News to Use #262: Attestation Deadline Moved from 2/28/15 to 3/20/15, Adding DX codes to the SQL Version, Motivational Quotes, Informational Hyperlinks, Cartoons, Jokes and More!

Attestation moved from 2/28/15 to 3/20/15:

I have been helping hundreds of office with the Attestation process, and I was expecting that to end today, but the government has given us another 3 weeks get your stimulus money. If you have not yet Attested and would like my assistance call: 312.212.1602

The following is an e-mail I received, you probably got it also:

New EHR Attestation Deadline for Medicare Eligible Professionals: March 20, 2015

Eligible professionals now have until 11:59 pm ET on March 20, 2015, to attest to meaningful use for the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program 2014 reporting year.

CMS extended the deadline to allow providers extra time to submit their meaningful use data. CMS continues to urge providers to begin attesting for 2014 as soon as they can.

This extension also allows eligible professionals, who have not already used their one “switch”, to switch programs (from Medicare to Medicaid, or vice versa) for the 2014 payment year until11:59 pm ET on March 20, 2015. After that time, eligible professionals will no longer be able to switch programs.

Medicare eligible professionals must attest to meaningful use every year to receive an incentive and avoid a payment adjustment. Providers who successfully attest for the 2014 program year will:

·  Receive an incentive payment

·  Avoid the Medicare payment adjustment, which will be applied January 1, 2016

Adding DX codes to the SQL Version, Motivational Quotes:

I received some feedback from our doctors in Florida that do Personal Injury that with the SQL data base, they could not use the E codes that they usually incorporate in their work. I mentioned this to Russ, and in Update 15.04 (2/20/15), he added the ability to add codes.

This is how you do it:

If you are running the SQL version of E-Z Notes (It will have that on the front left corner of the “Start Screen”), you click on the Set Up button on the upper left corner:

After entering your password, you will be on the General Settings screen, look at the bottom and find a purple button marked, “Personalize Your DX Codes.

You will need to select a category where you want to place the DX codes. I have selected, “Doctor’s Miscellaneous DX”

Now choose the green button marked, “Add to List”

Select, “Other not Found” (You can populate this box with codes that are in the system, but if the code you want/need it is not, you need to pick, “Other not Found”.

You can then enter the code. Russ has it listed as an ICD-9, but I am demonstrating the E codes and I suspect any code could be added.

Just type in the code you want

When you are done, it will look like this:

I don’t use these codes in my state, but here are some to give you an idea. Remember you can add any code that you need if it is not there:

E813.0   Driver of a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle  (collision with another vehicle)

E813.1   Passenger in a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle  (collision with another vehicle)

E813.2   Motorcyclist (collision with another vehicle)

E813.3   Passenger on a motorcycle (collision with another vehicle)

E823.0   Driver of a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle   (collision with a stationary object)

E823.1   Passenger in a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle (collision with a       stationary object)

E825.0   Driver of a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle  (non- traffic accident or other unspecified nature)

E825.1   Passenger of a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle (non- traffic accident or other unspecified nature)

E816.2    Driver of a motorcycle that lost control, without collision

E816.3   Passenger on a motorcycle that lost control, without collision

E814.7   Pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle

Since the weather for much of the country has been challenging, I have choosen a weather theme for this weeks humor

A married couple is fast asleep when suddenly the phone rings. The groggy husband answers it, expecting the worst. After listening a few seconds, he shouts, "How should I know? Who do you think I am, the weather man?" and slams down the receiver.

"Who was that?" asks his wife.

"I don't know; some guy wanting to know if the coast is clear.

Vertically-Challenged Female: Doctor, my crotch itches when it rains*.
Doctor examines patient.
Doctor: Yes, I think I see the problem. Nurse, fetch me my power saw.
Doctor plugs in power saw, Vertically-Challenged Female faints.

Vertically-Challenged Female eventually regains consciousness, sees the doctor putting away his saw.
Doctor: Ah, you're awake. Have a walk outside now, see whether that's any better.
It is raining hard, and Vertically-Challenged Female goes outside, walks up and down, and then returns to the room.
Vertically-Challenged Female: It worked! I'm cured! What did you do?
Doctor: I cut the top few inches off your boots.
